Walmart Out of Pistol Ammo

So I'm making it a habbit, every time I go to Walmart, Sports Authorty, Cabelas, Bass Pro, anywhere that sells ammo, to pick up atleast one box maybe two of one of the calibers I use...

A Box of .45, or box of .308, box of .22, something...

Went to the local (closest) wally world tonight and they were 100% out of Pistol ammo... They had some 12 ga, some 30-06 and a few other rifle rounds, but .45, .40, 9mm or any other thing you'd put in a pistol except .22s....

Also there was a sign that said due to ammo shortages and High demand, we will be limitind the sales of ammo to 6 boxes per customer per day...

Fricken shelves were BARE!!!!

So, I was out of town at the cabin all weekend, did somethng happen that I did not hear about to drive ammo sales in the cities???

When I was at two local gun shops (local to the cabin that is) they had all the normal stuff and a supprising amount of decent Pistols and Evil Black Rifles...

Walmart in town has been out for better part of the year. Just an occasional box or two of 9mm value pack, maybe some 223 hp (both of which quickly disappears), or small assortment of hunting ammo. IMO, you will have better luck frequenting gunshows and picking up what you need there or ordering it off the internet.

BTW, alot of shops around are limiting ammo purchases.

Sure, I agree.. and I do have other places to get stuff byt they are just a bit out of the way...

I happend to be there with the wifey getting Dog food, deoderant, etc... and thought I'd try and pick up a box or two...

Was just a tad shocked as most everythng has been comming back and I've never seen their shelves that bare since PBO 1st got elected...

They normally, try to face the shelves with whatever thay have and make'em look somewhat stocked anf full, but there was nothin doin tonight...

Looked like the eggs and milk section of the grocery store right before a huge snowstorm...

I stopped buy mine the other day and I was shocked how packed the ammo counter was with all types of ammo. They had everything I would want to buy, just didn't have spare money for a box or 2 this week.

I bought a full cart of ammo this morning at Wally World.

Well that is to say I bought 6 boxes of WWB 45ACP and wife bought some WWB 9mm and wwb 40SW.

So we bought all they allowed us to buy.

I think I will go back and get the rest, Never know :fan: could happen soon.

Walmart Big Rapids MI Sunday, just strolling through and noticed the glassed in ammo aisle was 90% empty. I figured I'd grab a box of .444 because I just orderd a new red dot sight and some sighting in is going to happen. No dice.
I did grab the last box of .32 silvertips for the wife unit's Tomcat.

I stopped in walmart last week and checked out the ammo counter. I saw. 45acp .40 and 9mm but didn't see .380. I ask and the girl said yes they had some and handed me over 2 boxes. It was actually out of place mixed in with other ammo and not where I had expected it to be. Two boxes was all she said they had though. Not sure about this, but it seems like they only stock a small amount on the shelf at a time to limit the hoarding. (JMO)

I've been using Ammoengine.com and got a few that way 9mm down to .20 ea at some places. Last week got some at .19ea usually Brown Bear/ Wolf.

I've attached a screen grab with some @ .20/.21ea for 9mm but they have most listed - Also aimsurplus.com has had some good deals and is very quick with the instock stuff. If you order like 1M at a time it saves you a lot of running around.

Re: Walmart Out of Pistol Ammo

At least you guys can buy pistol ammo at Wally World.

Our local store sells only shotgun and rifle ammo.

.22's???

They ask at the checkout if it is for a handgun. If you say "yes", they won't sell it to you. the question is, what happens if I say "no" and then try to use it in my P22? Will it somehow harm my gun? Will WalMart security show up at my door?

What a joke.

Re: Walmart Out of Pistol Ammo

went to a different Walmart as it was on the way home from work amd the only pistol ammo they had was 6 boxes of .40 Federal... So I picked'em up...

Only a buck more per box than the cheapest deal I could find online... Not bad...

Re: Walmart Out of Pistol Ammo

This is from deep behind enemy lines in Cali so take it for what it's worth...

The dozen or so different Walmarts in my area have been selling out of all pistol ammo within an hour of receiving weekly stock since the beginning of the year. Despite that, I've been able to score around 1000 rounds of 9mm WWB ($11 for 50 rd.box) - but that took hundreds of empty handed trips.

This past weekend, a half dozen of those stores all had stock on pretty much all pistol calibers....(now $12 box for 9mm) the clerks have all said the rush appears to be over, ammo is lasting overnight to 2 days on the shelf, so hopefully things are starting to break loose, at least here?

dimitri 09-22-2009 12:46 AM

Re: Walmart Out of Pistol Ammo

My Walmart had .308 in, but I bought it. Every couple of weeks they get in a good stock, but it goes quick - except 7.62x39. That has been on the shelf for awhile, probably because AK-47 is banned by name in CT - so if you live near Connecticut and need some food for your AK, hit a Walmart there.

Wilhelm 09-22-2009 12:24 PM

Re: Walmart Out of Pistol Ammo

It makes sense when the importation of ammo via the mail is banned like it is here.

Re: Walmart Out of Pistol Ammo

My local Walmart has not had 9mm, 40. 45. in stock for over a year now. At least not when I go. You can pick up some hunting rounds and some times .223.

My not so local big big big gun store (40 minutes away) almost always has these calibers in stock. I have also noticed that primers are starting to become easier to get as well.

Wally is great for a 50 round box or two - but just makes no sense to spend so much effort trying to get stockpiles on each visit ...as we hear so many people doing....

Good point!

If you order a large quantity, you may be able to work out something with a local dealer. A group bulk-order is a good way to defray costs.

WTF is the deal with everyone going to chinamart for ammo? Don't you know there are other places to get it? My local sporting goods shop is 5 minutes away and the shelves are constantly stocked with whatever I need for only a fraction of difference in price. Man i'm sick of seeing these wal mart is out of ammo threads.

For one reason its cheaper at MaoMart.

Gun shops and or sporting goods stores charge a lot more for the same thing.

Maybe where you live, but that is definitely not the case everywhere. Gun stores are the only places other than Walmart with any ammo here, and the price is literally double. Most sporting goods stores around here don't carry ammo at all. If they do, the price is outrageous.

Bought my six box limit of WWB 115 gr 9mm 100 count this morning. Every three weeks on Friday mornings they have a case of 10 out.

Price jumped from $19.97 to $20.97, but I know DEFLATION will knock that price down soon! :sarc:

still afloat, I went to Wal-Mart today and paid the same, 20.97 for 100 packs of WWB 9MM Luger.

I went in looking for a knife sheath for my new knife and looked in the ammo case just to see what it looked like. I only looked at pistol ammo and they had everything except .45, .38 and .380. The guy said they can't keep those 3 calibers on the shelves. Oddly enough they had about 10 or 12 boxes of the WWB 9mm Luger. I asked how many I could buy, he said 6 is the limit, which is a pretty good addition considering...

Yes, but please consider that every time you make a purchase at WalMart you are further contributing to the machine that takes down America. I know the ammo is made in the U.S. but if you put your dollars into a store which does not primarily import Asian products, the extra price will be worth it in the end. Look at it like this. If our economy was stronger and lacked dependence on Asian markets, the costs would be cheaper (relatively speaking) due to a stronger dollar. We import and consume. If we can't afford it, we borrow which weakens us further. Our dependence on Chinese cheap goods is coming back to bite us in the ass. It all balances in the end and you get what you pay for eventually. There's no way around it.

I challenge everyone to go a week without buying anything from WalMart and refusing to purchase anything made in China. Every time that consumption is made, America gets weaker and China gets stronger. Here we are complaining about our economy while salting the wounds. Tell them you will no longer fund the demise of the future generations of America and have them send that shit back on the next boat.

That is empowerment on a personal level. If more people did that, (and stopped consuming beyond their means) we wouldn't be in such a mess. (sorry for the rant but I hate WalMart, it's business practices and everything it stands for)

And god bless the non short sighted GIMmers who know what i'm talking about.

Ya, that's what i'm talking about. The small businesses and personal touch is gone thanks to chinamart. That's why I get so bent out of shape. The choices are limited but people still only want to be lured in to the cheapest price around. It all comes full circle in the end. When WalMart has the monopoly, then they can charge whatever they want. The whole "give me convenience or give me death" philosophy has been taken way too far and now it appears the convenience is the path to death financially.

You hit upon it; but in the end it all comes down to monetary policy. As long as we can simply print money and the rest of the world accepts it; we have no incentive to actually work and produce goods.

The gun stores really took advantage of the shortage with their high prices. $35-38 for a box of 380? Don't think so. And their prices are still sky high. But ammo is about all that I buy at WM.

I'm still watching crt based tv's and monitors. I still read maps. I will never buy an ipod, iphone, blackberry or stereo. They can dream up all the high tech crap they want, I won't buy it.

BIG 5 in my city finally has 9mm so I bought half of their stock but for some reason it is not selling quickly. My thoughts are that many people have given upon walmart and big 5 for pistol ammo and that gives a little breathing room for when they do get some in stock. But not for long as I am in town.

I was suprised, -all- of the Walmarts in Phoenix have been short / out for the entire year, however I was an hour out of town in a smaller town last weekend, and the shelves were full..

It also reminded me why I should live in a smaller town. Walking around the walmart you could tell they catered to a differnet market. Ammo shelf w/ 2 attendants and full stock, Mason jars bulk-stacked in the middle of the aisle, and I counted no less than 4 guys walking around open-carry....

Re: Walmart Out of Pistol Ammo

A few reasons I like to buy ammo at walmart are:

1. Its close (there are like 6 within less than a half hour)
2. They normally have good deals as compared to any gun shops or cost of shipping
3. Decent selection ( I use .22, 9mm, .40, .45, .223/5.56, .308, .30-30, .30-06, .410 and 12 ga and they used to stock them all) plus have some basic cleaning crap for after I'm done shooting
4. We're already there buying trash bags, and other household needs.
5. I can pay cash there and know I'm not put on another list or no one knows how much of what I might have or has the slightest way to tabulate what I might have.

I could go on...

I don't like contributing to the """Machine"" either, but there are no Mom and Pop or smaller store in the same footprint to compete with them on household items we usally buy there... I would rather buy my ammo from a local shop if they were so much higher... 13.99 vs 26.99 for same box and less of a selction.... Plus most of those crappy little gun shops, unless your somehow magiacally in their click, they are complete asshats to you when you come in to buy something...

Is the ammo shortage over at WM ?
Just came from there and they had 15 boxes of the winchester white box 100 count 10 boxes of 50 count , 20 boxes of federal 50 count all in .9mm
no .380 and just sold out of the .45 they had. Plenty of .40 .357 .38
Local online classifieds there are several people advertising .9mm in excess of 45 to 50 boxes that they just got for 3 to 4 $ above the actual cost per box "for their time in finding it all"
Is it over ?
